Sustainable Saratoga and GreenSheen to Host Free Community Paint Recycling Day on October 17

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — October 7, 2026 — Sustainable Saratoga will host its upcoming Paint Collection Day on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The free, drive-thru community event will take place in the Saratoga Springs High School parking lot, with vehicle entry from West Avenue only.

The event offers homeowners and businesses a responsible way to clear out unwanted paint while keeping hazardous materials out of landfills. Since New York became a Paint Steward State in 2022, Sustainable Saratoga has pioneered local collection efforts to recycle architectural coatings back into usable paint products. All are welcome. No residency requirements.

Partnering with paint manufacturer and recycler GreenSheen, the event will accept a wide array of interior and exterior architectural paints, including latex, acrylic, water-based, oil-based, stains, primers, and sealers. To maintain safety and efficiency, attendees must remain in their vehicles while volunteers handle all unloading.

“Our goal is to protect the local environment and make sustainable living accessible to everyone in our community,” said Kelsey Trudell, Sustainable Saratoga Executive Director. “Since 2022, this event has kept over 135 tons of paint and containers out of landfills.”

Important Event Details:

  • Acceptance Guidelines: All items must be in their original, intact, non-leaking manufacturing containers with legible labels. 
  • Not Accepted: Aerosol spray cans, paint thinners, solvents, auto/marine paint, arts and crafts paint, and driveway sealers. 
  • Registration: The event is entirely free, though day-of donations are greatly appreciated. Participants are strongly encouraged to pre-register online for a specific drop-off time slot: https://circular.eco/event/saratoga26?s=plugin
