ENGAGE WITH EXPERTS

Wyckoff Center, Case Center second floor

Plan to attend one or both of these exciting panel discussions on hot topics in sustainability

11:00 am-12:30 pm

Panel Discussion: Cultivating a Sustainable Future – Regenerative Agriculture at the Intersection of Climate Action, Environmental Justice, and Human Health

The industrial agricultural technologies of the 20th century like irrigation, chemical fertilizers and pesticides have increased food production at the cost of agricultural workers’ health, small farms, water waste, and soil health. How can we grow and eat our way to a healthier, more equitable world? Learn more from panelists with deep roots in these topics as urban agriculturalists and upstate farmers.

1:30-3:00 pm

Panel Discussion: From Waste to Wisdom – Unwrapping the Plastic Problem and Its Impacts on People and Planet

Plastic pollution has invaded our environment, with microplastics now prevalent in the water, soil, and in our own homes. Wildlife are found with pounds of plastic in their stomachs and microplastics have now been discovered in the human body, too. Exposure to microplastics, and the chemicals added to plastic products, causes detrimental effects to human health. Unfortunately, the world’s current methods of plastic recycling are flawed and ineffective, so greater emphasis needs to be placed on reducing the demand for single-use plastics all together by investing in reusable items, repairing broken goods, and holding the polluters accountable. We must work together to address the environmental injustice of today’s plastic pollution crisis.
